ELA for the first quarter will consist of the following: Explicit and implied inferences, theme, compare & contrast, similes, metaphors, figurative language, narrator's point of view, writing a personal narrative, parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, simple, compound, & complex sentences, types of sentences, & fragments and run-on sentences. We will be studying the aforementioned in preparation for our first interval which will be the week of 9/16.
We are beginning our first novel, "Chasing Lincoln's Killer." We will use the novel for higher level thinking & reading skill development, but we will also meet in small groups to cover specific reading skills. On Thursday, students will be assessed on their comprehension of chapters 1-4 of their novel which also consists of vocabulary AND on what we cover in small groups which will be inferences and theme. In writing, we will begin our personal narratives and will review the parts of speech.
Please see your child's agenda for homework assignments.
